Andorran criminal police officer Andreu Boix is recovering from the loss of his wife, who died as his passenger in a car accident. The widowed Andreu is brought back to life by the murder case of a young restaurateur, which is entrusted to him. Her body was found in a landfill near the Catalan town of La Seu d' Urgell, where only Andorran trucks go to unload. During the investigation, in which he collaborates with Catalan policewoman Alicia, he concludes that the main suspect is the wealthy Mauricio Vilanova, but there is still no motive for his crime. Commissioner Andreu continues his investigation on his own and unexpectedly finds himself in his own past, when, as an eight-year-old, he witnessed the fire at the church in Meritxell. Since then, everyone has rightly believed that the Romanesque statue of Our Lady of Meritxell, patron saint of the Andorran valleys, does not exist. The key piece of information to solving the entire case may show that the statuette is not so lost after all.
The book is not just a detective search for a supposedly lost statuette of a murder motive, but also offers insight into the inner life of a person going through a severe life crisis and is also an original, insightful and humorous probe into Andorran society. – Published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Principality of Andorra.
