When the Mother Superior of a small convent in the historic city centre finds Sister Paola strangled in the alley outside the convent one early morning, it's a mystery to everyone what the sister was doing outside so early. Detective Gavin Desmond and Inspector Sofia Gardener must find the answer not only to this question, but also to who murdered her and why. Was it a random passer-by or perhaps one of the gentlemen from the strange club, The Three Golden Pigs? Or her brother? What did Sister Paola need money for, and how far would she go to get it? Forensic pathologist Simeon Livingstone helps the detective with a tip, and an important piece of the puzzle is finally provided by the detective's brother, Garrett, a violin virtuoso. All the pieces lead Gavin and Sofia to the darkened convent library to confront the killer.
