Starting school

The publication deals with an important topic of pedagogical theory and practice and at the same time a turning point in the life of a child and his/her family - entering the first grade of primary school. The schoolboy is moving into a stage of life that brings many new things. That, whether he or she will perceive the new living situation as joyful and supportive of his or her self-esteem, or he'll feel anxiety, disappointment, or even failure, depends to a large extent on the professionalism of the teacher, on his skills and competences. The author tries to draw attention to the danger of a reductive conception of teaching consisting "only" in the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Without wishing to underestimate its importance, he sees the fundamental meaning of teaching in its developing mission, i.e. in securing the four basic dimensions - learning to know, learning to act, learning to live together, learning to be. It seeks to convey this mission to future and current teachers, their educators and parents.
