Celebrating books, cats and the people who love them
Japan's #1 bestseller brings a celebration of books, cats and the people who love them. High-school student Rintaró Nacuki, an avid bookworm, is about to close the bookstore-antique shop he inherited from his beloved grandfather. At that moment, however, a talking cat appears with an unusual request. He asks Rintaró to help him save the books. The world is full of lonely books that have been left unread and unloved, and the cat and Rintaró must free them from owners who neglect them.
The unlikely duo embark on an amazing journey, taking three journeys together into an imaginary world, entering various mazes to set the books free. On their travels, the cat rescuer and Rintaró meet a man, who lets his books languish on the shelf, with the unwitting torturer of books, who cuts the pages of books into shreds, to help people with speed reading, or a publishing drone, who only wants to create bestsellers. Their adventure culminates in one last, unforgettable quest - the final maze that awaits Rintaró will lead him to a realm where only the most powerful dare to enter...
This gripping tale of books, first love, imagination, and a young boy's unlikely friendship with a talking Cat who saved the books is a story for those for whom books are so much more than words on paper.
