The child from Auschwitz

I was born into a world that wanted to deny me the right to live

These are the words with which the historical novel by the writer Lily Graham begins, set in the merciless world of the Auschwitz concentration camp. His main character, Eva Adami, a girl of Jewish origin living in Prague, finds himself in the midst of the tumultuous events of the autumn of 1938, as Nazi Germany expands its living space and gradually gets rid of those who live there, they work and they love.

After the occupation of Czechoslovakia, Eva and her family boarded a transport and after a few months in the Terezín concentration camp they left for hell on earth - Auschwitz. Readers with an interest in the history of World War II and the Holocaust have probably read other books on a similar topic, but may not yet have encountered the story of women who gave birth in a concentration camp and protected and kept their children alive at the risk of their own lives.

The story of Eva, her family and the other women opens a sad chapter of the twentieth century, in which, despite inhuman conditions, there are still expressions of humanity and bonds that even fear and cruelty cannot destroy.

The novel The Child of Auschwitz does not primarily describe historical facts, but rather bears personal testimony to the inner strength to never give up hope of survival
