It is not the highest mountain in Europe, but it is said to be the most beautiful. The last peak of the Alps, which had not yet been climbed in the mid-19th century, provoked and attracted climbers who tried to climb it. Reinhold Messner describes the "Battle of the Matterhorn" in 1865 - the rivalry between Edward Whymper's expedition and Jean-Antoine Carrel's party. It describes the obsession of the climbers and the desire to achieve something that no one has ever achieved before, but it also shows the magical appeal of the mountains, their beauty and their fierce brutality. It tells of a friendship that fell apart, of disappointment and of a great tragedy.

Reinhold Messner
Italian mountaineer, traveller and writer from South Tyrol. At first he worked as a high school teacher, but in order to take part in high mountain expeditions, he earned extra money as a mountain guide. On his first ascent of the eight-thousanders he found himself on the verge of death and lost his brother, but the tragedy did not deter him. Eventually, he left his job and his studies at university and began to pursue mountaineering professionally. Since 1969, he has made more than a hundred expeditions, was the first to climb all 14 eight-thousanders, and has become a living legend and one of the most famous climbers in the world. He is the author of dozens of books, about 30 of which have been translated into Czech.

After his studies at the DAMU, he took up a permanent engagement at the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, in 2004 he guest-starred at the National Theatre in Brno and performed in Martin Hilský's composite programme presented as part of the Summer Shakespeare Festival at Prague Castle, where he then appeared as Iago in Othello in 2008. He is currently a regular guest of Prague's Theatre pod Palmovkou. He regularly appears in the TV series Ulice, Criminal Angel, Instead of upstairs, Happiness insurance, The Rose Garden 2, Doctors of Origins, etc. and in movies like Rules of Lying, Gravedigger, Habermann's Mill, Women, who hate men, Occam's razor, Intimacy. He's one of the best dubbers working today; won the František Filipovský Award for Best Male Performance in Dubbing and the Audience Award for dubbing the title character of Dr. Gregory House in Dr. House.
