The Menendez Murders
The updated edition of the book that follows the hit true-crime series on Netflix
Discover the updated and expanded edition of the book on the Menendez case, an essential contribution to understanding the entire affair, and the disturbing story behind the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
It began with a successful entertainment executive earning two million dollars a year, his wife, a former beauty queen, and their two sons, for whom everyone predicted a brilliant future. It was all just a façade!
The story of the Menendez family has fascinated the American public since 1989. News of the murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez, which took place one quiet Sunday evening in Beverly Hills, only made the front page of People magazine seven months later – after the arrest of the victims' sons. And the murder became a cult case that gripped the whole of America. The same America that, in July 1993, when the first trial of the Menendez brothers began, was almost entirely convinced that Lyle and Erik were just two greedy, rich brats who had murdered their loving and devoted parents. What really happened, however, remained a dark, hidden secret for many years.
The Menendez Murders is the culmination of more than thirty years of tireless journalistic work by Robert Rand. It gives the reader a chance to look beneath the surface and learn about the suppressed and groundbreaking information, including the harrowing history of abused children and sexual abuse that apparently occurred in the Menendez family for several generations. The updated edition of the book also brings entirely new revelations connecting the star boy band of the eighties, Menudo, to the Menendez family, a testimony about the emotional reunion of Erik and Lyle Menendez after years apart, and a surprising picture of the Menendez brothers today, who remain strong after decades in prison – despite being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. However, Rand's revelations in this book offer both brothers hope for a retrial!
