In Oslo, several women who have arranged an appointment through the Tinder dating site are killed in quick succession. The investigative team, newly commanded by Katrine Bratt, has reason to stand by the way the victims were killed, and the fact that part of their blood has always disappeared from the crime scene. Chief Police Chief Mikael Bellman needs to resolve the case as quickly as possible in order to move up the career ladder.

Therefore, he calls back Harry Hole, who in the meantime moved to Rachel on Holmenkollen and wanted to enjoy a happy married life and peaceful lessons at the police academy. Given the brutality of the murders, however, none of this is indulged. Circumstances force him to set up an alternative investigation group and follow the trail. But finding the truth is not easy at all, especially when life at a certain moment confronts it with the fundamental dilemma of favoring the family or investigating.
