At the thirtieth kilometer, threads of life intertwine that are as familiar as if we knew their actors from the neighborhood. In an ingeniously composed kaleidoscope of stories, life realities collide so differently that nothing but a hard collision can come. And that always raises questions.
“In her book, the author presents all the possible clichés that our lives are full of – the boss and his secretary; ruthless snobs who forget their roots; a girlfriend in a car worth millions; bribery police; difficult coming to terms with the death of a loved one; boundless belief in misinformation. At the same time, it shows the consequences of just letting ourselves be carried away by the flow of life. And that the average person is usually only forced to change when they are hit hard - whether physically or figuratively. The Thirtieth Kilometer is neither a crime novel nor a romance, nor does it bring any groundbreaking ideas, but it is worth reading anyway. It makes us reflect on our own lives, to take stock of whether all our to-dos are in balance, and whether we still have time to give our next steps a new direction. And that' s more than useful at the beginning of the year. "
Kateřina Dubská has been writing books for twelve years. She wrote six of them. From the poetic novel The Man Gabriel, the " family thriller" Daughters, to the seemingly " traffic detective" The Thirty Kilometer, which you are holding in your hand right now. Readers and literary critics sometimes call her a literary chameleon, but she says that all her books have one thing in common – hidden currents and messages that the reader must discover for themselves. After a hectic life, in which she co-founded the companies Computer Press and ERA, and the Verda Foundation, who has been supporting Roma students for 22 years, now lives in the White Carpathians, keeps bees and writes books, which she still enjoys incredibly.
