Through the landscape of Charles IV.

Otomar Dvořák and Josef Pepson Snětivý dedicated their seventh joint book to Charles IV. They followed in his footsteps through Prague, Bohemia and Moravia to visit Charles's buildings, show their importance for our country and for him personally and describe how they look today. Some of his works, e.g. Karlstejn, St. Vitus or Charles Bridge, everyone knows. But there are many others, lesser-known castles, monasteries and churches, not much is known about, that he founded it, or at least substantially modified, He marked them with His presence and lived an important life on them, and the fateful moments of his earthly pilgrimage.

Charles's efforts to make Bohemia and Prague the centre of the Roman Empire enriched us with a number of great, unique buildings. Otomar and Pepson narrate their history, put them in the context of his life and intentions, describe their further fates and interesting places in the surroundings... Thanks to this, a plastic and unique view of our greatest ruler was created, which in its form follows the successful book Landscape of the First Premyslids. There is also a summary of foreign buildings whose construction or reconstruction Karel initiated, and the text is supplemented by almost 400 photographs and pictures.

The authors say of this publication: "We hope, that this book, too, similar to our Secret Castles and Castles series or the aforementioned, the first Premyslids', will become your favourite guide, when you set out on your hikes in the footsteps of the Father of the Fatherland. You might even notice little things that didn't seem so important before. And perhaps on these journeys - just like us - you will realize that Charles IV. he fundamentally influenced the face of the Czech lands and that we are still benefiting from his legacy today."
