Valja Styblova: I was judged by the night

Radio dramatisation of the first novel by writer and doctor Valja Styblova starring Ivan Trojan and Jiří Langmajer. In the first double issue of Literární noviny in 1949, Stýblová published an excerpt from her prose poem Mne judila noc (The Night Judged Me), with which she succeeded in a literary competition run by the ELK publishing house, which planned to publish the book in a print run of more than 200,000. After the publishing house was closed down, according to the author's testimony, the book was labelled in the lecturers' reviews as being prone to naturalism and existentialism, and the prepared edition was scrapped (the prose was finally published officially in 1957). The vast majority of Valya Styblova's books are based on internal dialogue and at least partly devoted to medical topics.
