Velvet Illusions will take you through the lives of several characters linked together by fate, living through difficult times in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s and the Czech Republic in the 1990s. Let yourself be drawn into the action of a colourful tale of senseless revenge in which no one is blameless.
Insidiousness, hatred and hypocrisy represent only a fraction of the pitfalls that the various characters in the novel have to contend with. When the protagonist's classmate, great friend and later his English teacher die under strange circumstances, he embarks on an investigation that uncovers surprising connections between the three deaths.
Several seemingly self-contained, suspenseful and readable stories that come together in the final part of the novel to form a thrilling tale of senseless revenge in which nothing remains as it first appears.

Petr Čepek initially caught our attention by name. Like Kačer, Havel, Chramostová, Vondra, Černý and many others, he belongs to November 89´. After reading it, when our jaw really dropped several times from the sudden but logical and nicely finished twists and turns, we became interested in him as a writer.
