Věra Sládková: The Last Train from Frývaldov
The first part of a loose trilogy depicting the complex adolescence of a young girl during the Protectorate. Starring: Stanislav Zindulka. Three games, written for the Brno studio between 1978 and 1980 by Věra Sládková based on her books, (Last train from Frývaldov, White stockings, Insufficient long-suffering), was filmed by the experienced director Olga Zezulová and cast Stanislav Zindulka as the father. The story of the Czechoslovak borderlands, Brno's experience of the occupation and the end of the war is told through the eyes of a little girl who perceives the surrounding events as a kind of ghostly theatre and does not understand the circumstances, which, on the contrary, are well understood by the listener. The radio trilogy later became the basis for a television series directed by Karel Kachyna, The Train of Childhood and Hope, and Stanislav Zindulka later recalled, to audition for the daddy character, to whom his wife (played by Helena Růžičková in the series, in the radio adaptation by Libuša Billová) is called "shit", he said, without being invited, because he just had to play it. And he convinced the director, who hadn't originally counted on him.
