They are of one faith. But first they have to get along as people.
The court ordered Gardiner, a twenty-nine-year-old manager, to help out week after week for the next six months at the home of a Jewish fellow Jew, Mr Green, who was hit by a car in the street. The eighty-six-year-old widower, however, inhabits a Manhattan hovel that could rival a landfill, he doesn't like to let anyone into his apartment or near his body, and the extent of his stubbornness is exacerbated by advanced senility. Finding a way to such a counterpart would be a challenge even for a jaded social worker, let alone a young gay man. The clash between the two generations of a hard-tested ethnic group whose members usually answer questions with more questions is inevitable, especially when neither will let the other cut the wood. And yet all you have to do to break the ice is... well, ask the right questions. And the fascinated audience will understand why this conversational tragicomedy has been a success around the world for over a quarter of a century.
The successful stage play starring Elie Wallach premiered in the United States (1996). The story of friendship, prejudice and forgiveness was staged by, among others. and director Vladimír Michálek with Stanislav Zindulka as Mr. Green in the ADF agency.
