Unified 4 port SATA/SAS controller with 512MB DDR2 dedicated buffer that delivers maximum performance, scalability and flexibility. Its biggest benefits include support for both high capacity SATA and high speed SAS hard disks. It can be used anywhere where high data storage intensities are required, such as NAS systems, OLTP servers, web servers, and surveillance centres.

With the enhanced 6Gbit/s SAS 2.0 interface, and the PCI Express 2.0 interface to which the controller connects internally enables up to 60% more continuous serial data transmission than previous generations of controllers. This low profile version will provide 4 ports with RAID configurations of 0, 1, 1E, 5, 5EE, 6, 10. Up to 256 SATA or SAS hard disks and other RAID 50/60 configurations are supported when using an optional expander. Also interesting is the support of hybrid RAID 1 and 10, where it is possible to combine SSD and HDD.

The controller is based on the PMC-2 PMC2 2-chip PM8013, which delivers a transfer rate of up to 2GB/s. The peak performance is then up to 4.8GB/s via SAS 2.0 and 4GB/s via the PCI Express 2.0 interface (8 lines). The advantage of this model is support for various versions of operating systems, compatibility with more than 300 third party devices, and full integration with Adaptec Storage Manager for centralised management of RAID controllers through a JAVA based graphical user interface with SNMP and SMTP monitoring support.

The optional Adaptec Flash Module 600 (AFM-600), which uses Zero Maintenance Cache Protection with 4GB of NAND flash memory, replaces the backup battery packs and aims to eliminate data loss in the event of a power failure. The controller is supplied in a "kit" package containing an accessory in the form of a mSASx4 branching cable to 4xSATA with a length of 0.7m and additional plugs with ventilation openings.
