This Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Phono USB Turntable is a great tool for playing vinyl records for beginners. An enhanced version of the classic Gramophone Debut Carbon, it offers an integrated phono MM preamplifier and A/D converter with USB output. It is also very suitable for digitizing of the gramophone records. It uses a silent, synchronous motor (mounted through Sorbothane shock absorbers), which uses a silicone strap to drive a low-resonance, heavier MDF platter. The main part of the chassis is made of a light but sturdy chipboard.
The fitting of the carbon fibre tonearm is a fundamental and revolutionary change, as it is absolutely unique in this price category. Because of this advanced concept, any unwanted resonance is effectively transferred to the base of the arm and then to the chassis. The turntable comes complete with the Ortofon OM10 cartridge with an elliptical tip, so you can just plug it into an appropriate preamp system and start listening in superb quality.
