The QNAP TL-R1200C-RP NAS expansion unit is used to increase the storage capacity of compatible network storage, Windows computers and servers. The device offers twelve 3.5" or 2.5" drive bays with a SATA 6Gb/s interface. It connects to the host system using a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C interface, which supports data transfer speeds of up to 10Gb/s. The rackmount design requires mounting in a rack, and the total capacity of the installed drives is up to 216TB. The device solves the problem of insufficient space in home and business network storage. System administrators can connect the box to an existing NAS and instantly increase the space for storing files. The connected drives are used for file indexing with the Qsirch tool or automatic data sorting with the Qfiling application. The system thus expands the options for organising company documents.
The QNAP TL-R1200C-RP NAS expansion unit includes two 250W power supplies that operate in redundant mode. If one power supply fails, the other module takes over the power delivery, which prevents service interruption. The system prevents unexpected outages and data loss in the event of a power failure. Users configure storage space using software tools in the host operating system. When connected to a QTS or QuTS hero system, the Storage & Snapshots Manager is used for configuration. The system supports the creation of storage pools and snapshots to protect data from ransomware. Management is done entirely via software without the need for hardware intervention.
The QNAP TL-R1200C-RP NAS expansion unit also operates in a mode where each inserted hard drive functions as a separate unit. This allows users to use the drives as removable media with high capacity. Once the capacity is full, users can easily remove the drive and replace it with a new, empty one. The removed drives can then be used for data archiving in a dry environment.
The USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface with a Type-C connector uses the UASP protocol to speed up data transfer. The protocol organises the command queue more efficiently and increases bus throughput when copying files. The device exhibits higher transfer speeds than older USB interface standards. A Type-C to Type-A connection cable is included in the package. The device facilitates the transfer of large volumes of data between different locations without burdening the network infrastructure. Users first configure a RAID array and upload the necessary files, then they can physically move the entire disk array to another workstation and connect it to a new host. This procedure accelerates data migration in a business environment.
