Fenix HM53R Garnet is a special edition headlamp updated based on customer feedback. It offers a total of 9 neutral white and red light modes. The red LED allows your eyes to adjust naturally to the dark and its bright flashing can also be used as a safety light on the back of a bike. You can remove the torch from the headband, clip it to a pocket or strap with the steel clip, or attach it to a metal surface using the magnetic end cap. Weighing just 102g including the strap and battery, the Fenix HM53R Garnet headlamp is suitable for running, hiking, fishing, camping and professional use.
The headlamp is powered by a Fenix 18350 Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1600mAh. It recharges via the USB-C connector on the side of the torch and a full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours. The button lights up red during charging and green when complete. A short press of the button when the headlamp is off shows the remaining capacity. Solid green indicates more than 80%, flashing green 50–80%, solid red 20–50% and flashing red less than 20%. When critically low on battery, the Fenix HM53R Garnet automatically switches to lower modes. In an emergency, you can insert an RCR123A battery or a disposable CR123A lithium battery.
Turn on the white light by pressing and holding the button for 0.5 seconds, or the red light with a quick double press. You can then cycle through the different power levels with short presses. To turn the Fenix headlamp off, press and hold the button for another 0.5 seconds. The memory function restores the last set mode for both white and red light. The exception is Turbo mode; after turning it off, the HM53R Garnet will start in high mode next time. To prevent it from accidentally switching on, you can lock it electronically by holding the button for 3 seconds or mechanically by loosening the battery cap by a quarter turn.
The body of the Fenix HM53R Garnet headlamp is made of A6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminium alloy and features a type III hard-anodised finish, which increases the surface's resistance to scratches. The IP68 rating ensures it is dustproof and waterproof when submerged to a depth of up to 2 metres for 4 hours. The headlamp's construction also withstands drops from a height of 2 metres. High-transmittance TIR optics create a smooth light cone. Digital regulation limits the drop in brightness as the battery discharges. If the headlamp's temperature reaches 55°C, the power automatically decreases and will gradually increase again once it cools down.
