LifeStraw Personal Steel Is a portable water filter that transforms microbiologically polluted water into safe and clean drinking water. It does not require any batteries or spare parts and can filter at least a thousand gallons of water over its lifetime. The filter was developed for drinking from any water source (from the pond, as well as from an open water stream, lake, or river). Because of its light weight and narrow body, it is ideally suited for hiking, travelling and camping, especially in areas where water resources can be contaminated and contain increased amounts of bacteria and parasites.
The internal part of the LifeStraw filter consists of a large number of hollow fibres. Each fibre has pores of 0.2 microns, which is approximately five times smaller than the diameter of the human hair. Water is sucked in and passed through narrow fibres where the pores contain bacteria, parasitic protozoa and other dirt. Activated carbon capsules prevent odours, ingress of coarse dirt and chlorine (life of 100 litres). This purely physical filtration method does not contain any chemicals.
LifeStraw Steel uses advanced microfiltration membrane technology to remove up to 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.999% of viruses and 99.9% of parasitic protozoa that are commonly found in water. LifeStraw products prevent diseases of contaminated water, such as Cholera, Cryptosporidium, Cyclosporiasis, diarrheal diseases, dysentery, gastric and intestinal diseases, Giardiasis, Guinea Worm, abdominal typhus and others.
Simply drink through the LifeStraw Steel filter and blow the filter through the air to clean the dirt. Before first use or whenever the filter is completely dry, immerse both ends in clean water (remove the mouthpiece and keep it aside because it must remain dry) and hold it under the surface for 20 seconds to allow the water to flow through the filter. Then, take five sips of water from the side of the mouthpiece. When you return from your trip or right before you store the LifeStraw Steel, rinse the filter under running water at both ends and allow it to dry.
