Isotonic drink
An isotonic drink has an osmotic pressure equal to that of body fluids. As human sweat has a lower osmolality than body fluids, care should be taken to ensure targeted and controlled dosing. The mineral content of sweat is inversely proportional to the ambient temperature (as the temperature rises, the mineral concentration in sweat decreases), so the amount of water used to prepare ISODRINX should be increased by 10 to 20% at temperatures above 25 °C. Disproportionately increased consumption of isotonic beverages may result in a greater intake of electrolytes than output, and therefore a higher intake than the actual requirement. This leads to a thickening of their concentration in the extracellular fluids and a disturbance of the osmotic balance between the extracellular fluid and the cells.

The dilution ratio for an isotonic drink is 35 g (slightly heaped scoop) per 500 ml of water (osmolality 275-305 mOsm/kg). The dilution ratio for the HYPOtonic drink is 35 g per 750 ml of water (osmolality less than 250 mOsm/kg).
