Expansion unit for selected Synology DiskStation models. It offers a simple and fast solution to get extra data space (capacity up to 12 other HDDs / SSDs) if your existing storage capacity is depleted . By using disc compartments that do not require screw fixing, it is easy and fast to replace them.
For both backup and extension
When creating a stand-alone volume, the drive can also be used as a stand-alone backup device for the existing Synology DiskStation, providing you with an excellent backup solution for local disks in the event of system failure. If you already use one of the RAID arrays on your Synology DiskStation, you can extend it without having to reformat it and thus not disturb the provision of its services.
Direct connection and simple administration
The expansion unit connects to the existing storage using a specially designed cable that ensures maximum data throughput. With a 6GB/s connection speed, you can use hard disks in the Synology DX1215 connected in the same way as the internal drives of Synology DiskStation. The configurable Hibernation mode saves energy and, in particular, extends the life of your hard drives. In addition, the DX1215 is equipped with an intelligent on/off feature of the connected device, allowing for effective operation even without user intervention.
