USS Wasp
The Wasp class is a class of American multi-purpose helicopter landing craft (marked LHD - Landing Helicopter Deck). A total of eight units named Wasp were built, Essex, Kearsarge, Boxer, Bataan, Bonhomme Richard, Iwo Jima and Makin Island. In service, they replaced the Iwo Jima class ships. They are designed for loading, transport, landing, command and subsequent support of the US Marine Corps Unit for 2,000 men (Marine Expeditionary Unit - MEU). USS Makin Island - The last unit of the Wasp class was built in a modified form and is a transition to the next class America. They differ mainly in the drive system used.
