The AXAGON CLR-M2XL passive aluminium heatsink is designed to dissipate heat from high-performance M.2 SSDs operating via the NVMe interface. With its robust construction and large cooling surface, it actively prevents performance drops under heavy workloads. The heatsink maintains the operating temperature at an optimal level, thereby supporting stable performance and helping to extend the lifespan of the SSD’s memory cells. It is designed for drives of this format and comes complete with mounting hardware.

Radiator design
The body of the heat sink consists of tall aluminium fins, which are designed to increase the total surface area for efficient heat transfer to the surrounding environment. The design is complemented by a metal frame, which serves not only as a mounting element but, above all, as an active cooling surface for the underside of the drive. Thanks to this design, heat is dissipated from both sides of the M.2 SSD, which is crucial for double-sided drives with memory chips on both sides of the circuit board.
Reduction in operating temperature
Thanks to its large cooling surface and dual-sided heat dissipation, the heatsink reduces the operating temperature of the M.2 SSD compared to operation without a heatsink. This reduction is key to preventing a drop in performance during prolonged heavy use, known as thermal throttling. Maintaining a stable and lower temperature protects the sensitive memory cells from degradation, which directly contributes to extending the drive’s overall lifespan. Furthermore, operation is completely silent, as cooling is passive and does not require a fan.
Installation of the radiator
The cooler supports M.2 SSDs with extended dimensions and both main interfaces: SATA (AHCI) and NVMe (PCI-Express). The pack contains three thermal pads, which can be combined to ensure the optimum height for optimal contact with both single-sided and double-sided drives. This ensures efficient heat transfer between the SSD and the aluminium body of the cooler. The package includes all mounting hardware, including a screwdriver, for easy installation.
