Favourite
You can save your favourite programme as a combination of your most-used programme and an additional function.
Automatic door opening before the programme ends
Unloading dishes that aren't completely dry or are still too hot can be a nuisance. With the EfficientDry function, the dishwasher door opens automatically after the wash programme finishes, which is a very practical solution that improves the drying process. This also prevents steam condensation and gently cools the dishes, so you can put your plates straight onto the shelves without needing to dry them first. What's more, this technology also helps you save energy.
OpenAssist
The OpenAssist function lets you open a fully integrated, handleless dishwasher – just press the front panel gently. The door will open slightly, allowing you to conveniently load and unload your dishes. It's a great solution for modern kitchens with seamless front surfaces.
Green Collection dishwashers
Our German-made, Class A dishwashers contain a portion of CO₂-reduced stainless steel. This specially produced material is carefully monitored and allocated to these dishwashers via a certified mass balance system.* Compared to conventional stainless steel, it has a carbon footprint that is up to 40% lower.**
*During production, the CO₂-reduced stainless steel is mixed with conventional stainless steel, but it is allocated to our Class A energy efficiency dishwashers based on a mass balance calculation (according to ISO 22095), verified and confirmed by TÜV Rheinland.
**CO₂-reduced stainless steel consists of 95% high-quality recycled material. The comparison is against the conventional stainless steel used in the production of our dishwashers.
Extra Clean Zone
Dried-on food in bowls or cereal stuck to the bottom are no longer a problem. The Extra Clean Zone in the upper basket uses three rotating water jets for a more intensive soak – without needing to add more detergent or increase the temperature more than necessary.
TimeLight
With fully integrated dishwashers, it's often hard to tell what stage of the cycle they're in. TimeLight projects the remaining time and programme status onto the floor, giving you an instant overview even when the door is closed.
Rackmatic
When loading the dishwasher, sometimes you need a little more space at the top – for stemmed glasses or taller dishes, for example. The Rackmatic system helps here by letting you adjust the position of the upper basket to three different levels. This gives you the flexibility to place bulky or tall items exactly where you need them.
Home Connect
Get the most out of your smart dishwasher. The Home Connect app lets you control the BOSCH SMD6ECX21E Serie 6 dishwasher directly from your smartphone – easily select the ideal programme, check the current status, set notifications, and better tailor the wash to your needs. The Smart Start function and other options are also handy, making daily operation easier.
Smart Start
Smart Start helps you manage your appliance's energy consumption more strategically. This function automatically selects the dishwasher's start time based on one of two presets you can configure in the Home Connect app, taking into account two parameters within the wash cycle: the availability and proportion of renewable energy (such as solar or wind), or lower energy costs when your electricity rates are at their lowest.*
*Cost savings require compatible high and low electricity tariff switching. Optimisation is performed either to maximise the share of renewable energy in the grid or to reduce costs. Feature availability may vary by country.
Hygienically tested BOSCH dishwasher
In a BOSCH dishwasher, viruses like corona and influenza are effectively eliminated even with the Eco 50°C programme, as tested by the Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology (Hygiene Label Level 1). Even higher levels of hygiene can be achieved by using programmes with higher temperatures in your BOSCH dishwasher, which are also effective against more resistant viruses, including enveloped and non-enveloped ones. For BOSCH dishwashers, the Intensive 70°C programme and the Machine Care maintenance programme meet these criteria (Hygiene Label Level 3).
Unleash the full power of your detergent
Using the right amount of detergent is crucial for an optimal wash result. The Dosing Assistant in the BOSCH SMD6ECX21E Serie 6 dishwasher ensures that the detergent dissolves completely in a special collection tray in the upper basket. A targeted jet of water distributes the detergent evenly, controllably, and quickly throughout the dishwasher's interior. The result is a more effective and quieter wash.
ActiveWater technology
We designed the ActiveWater system to wash dishes thoroughly while minimising resource consumption. Instead of just using more water, it uses it more efficiently. Thanks to targeted spraying, rapid circulation, and advanced filtration, our dishwashers achieve hygienically clean and sparkling dishes. This efficient design allows us to achieve these results with less water and, consequently, less energy to heat it.
Quiet operation
Dishwashers with a SilentPowerDrive provide an effective wash at a low noise level. They are equipped with a brushless motor designed for energy-efficient operation. The motor helps reduce friction noise and contributes to the appliance's smooth, quiet running.
Intensive Zone function
The Intensive Zone function (optional on selected programmes) increases the spray pressure and temperature in the lower basket. This results in a thorough wash for heavily soiled pots and pans, while you can safely wash more delicate items in the upper basket.
Automatic programmes
Different loads require different settings. Automatic programmes adjust the water temperature and wash time themselves, according to the amount of dishes and how dirty they are. This means you use just the right amount of water and energy needed – for the best results without having to think about it.
Statistics (Home Connect)
The Statistics function in the Home Connect app gives you a clear overview of how you actually use your appliances. You can see which programmes and settings you choose most often, as well as your total energy and water consumption over time. Thanks to a 12-month history, you can easily track how your choices affect consumption month by month – giving you a clear picture of your daily habits.
Consumption forecast
Wondering how much energy and water a particular programme will use? The Consumption Forecast function in the Home Connect app shows you the estimated energy and water consumption, as well as the expected duration for any combination of programme and optional function you select. This lets you calmly compare the options and choose the programme that best suits the current load in the dishwasher and your needs.
Remote diagnostics
When an appliance isn't working as expected, remote diagnostics can help. With your permission, customer service can remotely check the appliance's status, locate the problem, and recommend a solution – or prepare a service technician with everything they need.
Voice control
Thanks to its compatibility with Amazon Alexa, you can also control the dishwasher with your voice. Check if the 'Home Connect' skill is available for your country and language in the Alexa app. Activate it to link your Amazon Alexa device and your home appliance.
Favourite programme with a single touch
Simplify your routine. The Favourite programme feature lets you save a combination of your most-used programme and an additional function. You can then launch it with a single touch – via Home Connect or directly on the control panel.

Is it possible to remove the top panel of a freestanding dishwasher, and how tall will it be afterwards?
Yes, on most freestanding dishwashers the top lid can be removed. This brings the appliance's height down from 85 cm to 81.5 cm, allowing it to fit under a standard countertop.
What is the difference between freestanding/undercounter/built-in/fully integrated dishwashers?
A freestanding model has its own outer casing and top lid. An undercounter model sits under the counter but keeps its original front door and control panel. A built-in (semi-integrated) model has its front covered by a kitchen cabinet panel, though the control panel stays visible. A fully integrated model is completely hidden behind the cabinet door, with the control panel mounted on the top edge of the door.
What does it mean that the front panel on the door is not included in the delivery?
For built-in and fully integrated models, the dishwasher ships without an outer decorative panel. That panel, matching your kitchen's design, is supplied and fitted by your kitchen furniture provider.
What is the duration of each program?
Duration depends on the cycle chosen. Quick or 1-hour cycles run about 30–60 minutes, while an Auto cycle (45–65°C) takes around 2–2.5 hours. The Eco 50°C program can run 3.5 to 4 hours, since it washes at a lower temperature with longer water contact time to save energy.
On the control panel of the dishwasher, it is not possible to change the program and Eco50 is still illuminated.
A cycle is currently running or was interrupted. Reset the appliance by pressing and holding the "Start" button (or the button marked Reset 3s) for 3 seconds. The display will then show 1 minute remaining, and once that counts down and the water drains, you'll be able to select a new program.
Does the dishwasher have a function to open the door before the program ends?
Yes. Models with EfficientDry automatically open the door slightly during the drying phase, improving results and saving energy. Models with OpenAssist let you open handle-free doors just by pushing on them at any point during the cycle, which pauses the program.
What is Zeolite?
Zeolite is a natural mineral used in dishwashers with PerfectDry technology. During drying, it absorbs moisture and converts it into dry, hot air, resulting in exceptionally dry dishes — plastics included — with very little energy use. The mineral regenerates on its own and never needs replacing.
There is water in the dishwasher after delivery.
This is completely normal and actually a sign of quality control — every Bosch or Siemens dishwasher undergoes a thorough wet test at the end of the production line to confirm watertight seals and proper function of all systems.
The new dishwasher is wet inside and has an odor, is that normal?
Yes, this comes from residual water left over from factory testing, which can affect the air quality inside the sealed packaging. Before first use, we recommend running the Machine Care cycle, or a standard intensive program with cleaner and no dishes loaded.
Can the water and drain connections of the dishwasher be extended?
Yes. To extend the AquaStop inlet hose, an original BSH extension kit (part code SGZ1010) is required. The drain hose can be extended with a standard connector and suitable hose, up to a total length of 3.5 to 4 meters.
Why should I choose a more expensive dishwasher?
Higher-end models tend to run quieter and more efficiently (energy class A/B), offer premium drying via Zeolite, have more flexible interior layouts (VarioDrawer cutlery drawer, Max Flex baskets), include Home Connect connectivity, and last longer thanks to premium materials like a full stainless-steel tub.
What are the advantages of connecting a dishwasher to the Home Connect app?
Home Connect lets you start cycles remotely, receive notifications (cycle finished, low salt or rinse aid), download new specialized programs, get remote diagnostics from customer service, and set water hardness or dosing preferences directly from your phone.
The entire control panel is lit up and the dishwasher cannot be operated.
This is likely caused by an active child lock or a minor software glitch. Try holding the key/padlock icon button for 4 seconds to unlock it. If that doesn't help, unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker for 5 minutes to perform a hard reset.
What is the difference between EfficientDry, PerfectDry, extra drying, and OpenAssist?
EfficientDry automatically opens the door at the end of the cycle. PerfectDry uses Zeolite minerals for thorough, cupboard-ready drying without needing to open the door. Extra Dry is an optional setting that raises the final rinse temperature and extends the drying phase. OpenAssist provides an automatic touch-to-open door for handleless kitchen designs.
What is an XXL dishwasher?
An XXL dishwasher is a built-in model with a taller body — 86.5 cm instead of the standard 81.5 cm. That extra 5 cm of interior height makes it well suited to large plates, baking sheets, or tall-stemmed wine glasses.
