Choosing a power supply
When choosing a suitable PC power supply, besides the form factor, a key parameter is its power output. This indicates the maximum number of watts the PSU can continuously supply to the components in the computer. It's a good idea to use a web-based calculator to work out the optimal power based on your chosen components.
A power supply ready for the future
Compatibility with the ATX12V 3.1 standard ensures a seamless connection for current and future generation components. The Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W handles the power spikes of modern graphics cards, which can briefly demand significantly more power than their nominal rating. The native 16-pin PCIe Gen 5 (12V-2×6) connector with integrated short-circuit detection pins provides reliable and safe power to even the most powerful GPUs.
Native PCIe Gen 5 support
Modern graphics cards require a reliable, high-wattage power supply, which is why the Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W includes a native 16-pin PCIe Gen 5 (12V-2×6) connector. This cable can deliver up to 600W of power directly to the graphics card without needing adapters or reducers, which can pose a potential risk. Shortened sense pins ensure a secure connection and protect against short circuits or incorrect insertion of the connector. This technology keeps your hardware protected and ensures the graphics card receives clean, stable power for maximum performance without dropouts or system instability.
The Fractal Design Ion 3 has Momentum cooling for silent operation
The powerful 140mm Momentum 14 fan with a fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) ensures efficient cooling with minimal noise. Blades made of liquid crystal polymer (LCP) optimise airflow and contribute to a longer lifespan for the entire power supply. This design helps the Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W run cooler and quieter than standard power supplies, something you'll appreciate in quiet builds focused on minimal noise.
Certified 80 PLUS Gold efficiency
The 80 PLUS Gold certification guarantees a power conversion efficiency of at least 90% at typical loads. The Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W minimises losses and waste heat through its optimised topology with LLC resonance and synchronous rectification. Lower electricity consumption means savings on your energy bills, and reduced thermal stress on components extends their lifespan.
Quiet operation without compromise
The variable fan speed automatically adjusts the cooling intensity to the current load of the power supply. At lower loads, you can activate the Zero-RPM mode, which stops the fan completely for virtually silent operation. The Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W thus offers the optimal balance between efficient cooling and quiet performance, ideal for silent gaming or work setups.
A PSU with a fully modular design
The fully modular design lets you connect only the cables you actually need, eliminating unnecessary clutter inside the case. The flat-design UltraFlex cables offer exceptional flexibility for easy routing, even in compact builds. The Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W makes it easy to build a tidy and aesthetically clean system with optimal airflow.
Designed for a long lifespan
Premium Japanese 105°C-rated electrolytic capacitors ensure stable performance and reliability even under long-term load in demanding conditions. A Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 100000 hours confirms the quality of the components used. The Fractal Design Ion 3 Gold 750W is also covered by a 10-year warranty, which provides long-term peace of mind.

80 Plus certification in the European market
The 80 Plus certification was created to objectively assess the efficiency of PC power supplies. This provides users with a simple and clear comparison between different models. In the European market (which uses a 230V voltage), there are six levels of 80 Plus certification, each with set requirements for PC power supplies. Higher energy efficiency primarily means lower energy consumption.
| PC power supply load | Efficiency at 20% load | Efficiency at 50% load | Efficiency at 100% load |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 PLUS | 82% | 85% | 82% |
| 80 PLUS Bronze | 85% | 88% | 85% |
| 80 PLUS Silver | 87% | 90% | 87% |
| 80 PLUS Gold | 90% | 92% | 89% |
| 80 PLUS Platinum | 92% | 94% | 90% |
| 80 PLUS Titanium | 94% | 96% | 94% |
