For the first time ever, the legendary Frostbite engine comes to EA Sports NHL 22. NHL 22 delivers huge visual upgrades for both current and next-generation consoles, making it one of the biggest leaps forward in graphics in the series' history. From revamped player likenesses and cloth animations that bring characters to life, to dynamic lighting that creates truly immersive game environments, you'll see improvements everywhere.
New realistic stick interactions enhance the game's physics, delivering more believable battles for the puck that are both fair and skill-based. A better stick-to-body contact system results in more accurate penalty calls, such as when poke checking. You'll also experience more realistic movement along the boards without the stick clipping through textures.
Experience the effect of Superstar X-Factors, a groundbreaking game system that allows you to fully unleash the unique skills of star players—their presence on the ice now has a greater impact than ever before. Reserved only for the league's elite, Superstar X-Factor abilities separate the best from the rest and make superstars feel as authentic as their real-life counterparts.
Players are assigned one Zone Ability that is dominant to their game, allowing them to outshine their opponents. Zone Abilities are always on and activate automatically under the right conditions. For example, a Zone Ability that improves long passing will activate when attempting a long-distance pass (but has no effect on a short pass). Specific Zone Abilities are available to only a limited number of players and in some cases are even exclusive. This means that certain players have unique abilities in the game.
