The Apitor Robot R construction kit combines the worlds of building blocks, cars and programming in a single set. You can build 4 different motorised models from the 300 colourful pieces, including a fast Buggy and a Rocket Car. The control module with two high-speed motors ensures nippy movement, and a pair of multicoloured LED lights adds light effects to the models. Using the free Apitor Kit app, you can control the finished creations via Bluetooth or program them in an intuitive block-based environment. The kit is designed for children aged 6 to 12 and develops creativity, logical thinking, fine motor skills and provides a first experience with robotics and programming.
Apitor Robot R lets you build four different vehicle models from a single set of 300 pieces. The manufacturer's examples include a fast Buggy and a Rocket Car. Once you finish one model, you can take it apart and start building the next one. The combination of building pieces, a pair of motors and a control unit creates functional models that aren't just for display – you can actually get them moving and control them.
The control module contains two high-speed motors that provide movement and a fast response to commands from the app. Thanks to independent motor control, the model can turn, change direction and react to different control methods. The more rugged off-road design of the Buggy is complemented by a spare wheel, round headlights and design elements inspired by real off-road vehicles.
With the Apitor Kit app, you can not only control the Apitor Robot R, but also program it. The intuitive drag-and-drop block environment lets you assemble individual commands just like building blocks. Children gradually learn the principles of loops, variables and logical sequences, and can create their own movement sequences. This makes programming accessible even without any previous experience.
For direct control of the model, the app offers four modes – Dual Motor, Single Motor, Gyro and Path. In Dual Motor mode, you can control both motors independently, Single Motor simplifies control of one motor, Gyro uses your phone's movement, and Path lets you draw a route on the screen for the robot to follow. The connection between the phone and the model is made via Bluetooth.
The front of the model is complemented by two multicoloured LED lights that support seven programmable colours. The light effects can be used during play or as part of created programs, giving the model a more striking appearance when driving in twilight or in the dark.
The set also includes racing stickers that let kids customise the look of their creation. The Buggy uses a striking yellow and black colour combination, a spare wheel, classic round headlights and a design inspired by off-road racing cars. The final model offers not only functional mechanics but also a more refined look.
The individual pieces simply snap together, and no screws or tools are needed for assembly. A classic building manual and further instructions are available in the Apitor Kit app. The package also includes a sorting tray to help keep the 300 pieces neatly organised during building.
Apitor Robot R combines building, remote control and programming, so children develop their fine motor skills, creativity, logical thinking and problem-solving abilities while they play. The programming tasks also clearly demonstrate how individual commands affect the model's actual movement. The kit has earned the STEM.org Authenticated™ mark.
