Thanks to realistic reproduction and a staggering 3,260 parts, the model becomes not only a striking decoration but also a fascinating building project. The real Titanic was built over two years - from 30 March 1909 to 31 May 1911 - by nearly 4,000 workers at the Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The goal was to create the largest mobile vessel in the world. Besides the Titanic, two other ocean liners were built: Britannic and Olympic. The Titanic was considered a symbol of technological progress and reliability, which contributed to the widespread belief that it was "unsinkable".

On April 10, 1912, Titanic set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. It was commanded by the experienced Captain Edward Smith - it was to be his last cruise before retirement, a sort of "peak" of his career. The ship was just a day out of New York harbor when 14. April 1912 at 11:40 p.m., she crashed into an iceberg. The impact created a hole approximately 90 metres long in the hull - the beginning of one of the most famous maritime disasters in history.

The large number of casualties was the result of a tragic combination of circumstances - the collision with the glacier, lackness of sufficient lifeboats and insufficient preparation of the crew for the evacuation. The Titanic disaster will go down in history as a symbol of human arrogance, but also as a warning to future generations.
