The QNAP TS-AI642-8G NAS is designed for data storage, backup, and advanced AI-powered image analysis. This system is driven by an octa-core ARM Cortex-A76/A55 processor with an integrated NPU, delivering 6 TOPS of performance to accelerate algorithms. It comes with a fixed 8GB of RAM, which cannot be further expanded. Users can take advantage of high-speed data processing from IP cameras for real-time face and object recognition. The device runs on the QTS operating system and offers six bays for SATA hard drives. A free PCIe Gen 3 × 2 slot is available for installing expansion cards, which add extra functionality. Users can install 10GbE network interfaces. The installed SSD cache speeds up disk array response during demanding operations. Ransomware protection uses block-based snapshots, which record the state of the entire system at a specific time. If data becomes corrupted, individual folders and files can be restored to their original state.

Network storage and artificial intelligence
The integrated ARM Cortex-A76/A55 processor is complemented by an NPU hardware accelerator with a total performance of up to 6 TOPS. This allows the system to perform faster face and object recognition without increasing power consumption. This acceleration is evident in applications like QuMagie and Qsirch when processing text from images.
Intelligent surveillance and video analysis
The device supports connection to thousands of IP cameras compatible with the ONVIF protocol. Users can watch live streams and evaluate recordings in real time. The integrated QVR Face and QVR Human tools analyse the movement of people and faces across multiple channels simultaneously. Additionally, two HDMI 1.4b outputs enable direct video display on monitors without needing another computer.
Storage expansion
The basic configuration with six SATA drive bays can hold up to 110TB of data in a RAID 5 array. If needed, the capacity can be further increased by connecting an external TL-D1600S expansion unit. This creates space for up to eighteen hard drives for storing large volumes of data. The system also supports connecting TR series expansion units with a hardware RAID array.
Fast network data transfer
The mainboard features one 2.5GbE port and two Gigabit Ethernet ports for stable network communication. By using compatible network cards in the PCIe slot, transfer speeds can be further increased. Laboratory tests show read speeds of up to 1509MB/s and write speeds of 1501MB/s in an optimal configuration. It also includes support for features like Wake-on-LAN for remote power-on.
