Architecture, performance and connectivity
The processor, codenamed Raphael AM5, is built on the Zen 4 architecture. It has 6 CPU cores, supports multithreading, and has a total of 12 threads. The base clock is 3.8GHz, while the maximum boost clock reaches up to 5.1GHz. In terms of connectivity, it offers 4 native USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and 1 native USB 2.0 port. The PCI Express version is PCIe 5.0 with a total of 28 native PCIe lanes, 24 of which are usable. NVMe support includes Boot, RAID0, RAID1 and RAID10.
Manufacturing technology and graphics core
The cache configuration includes 384KB of L1 cache, 6MB of L2 cache and 32MB of L3 cache. The CPU cores are manufactured using the TSMC 5nm FinFET process, and the I/O die uses 6nm technology. The integrated graphics model is AMD Radeon Graphics. The graphics have 2 cores and a frequency of 2200MHz. It also supports USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
Power, overclocking and memory management
The default TDP is 65W and the number of dies in the package is 2. This model with an unlocked multiplier supports AMD EXPO technology for easy system memory overclocking. It also offers Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimizer Voltage Offsets and support for AMD Ryzen Master. The system memory type is DDR5 with 2 memory channels. The maximum memory size is 128GB and the system memory subtype is UDIMM. The memory controller supports DDR5-5200 when using two modules (1R/2R) and DDR5-3600 when all four slots are populated. ECC support is available but requires motherboard support.
Compatibility and cooling
The processor uses the AM5 socket and supports chipsets such as A620, X670E, and X670. The CPU Boost technology is Precision Boost 2. An AMD Wraith Stealth thermal solution is included in the package. The maximum operating temperature is 95°C. The instruction set is x86-64 with supported extensions such as AES, AMD-V, and FMA3. The processor supports the Windows 11, Windows 10, RHEL x86 and Ubuntu operating systems.

Processor cores and threads
Processor cores, to a certain extent, work like separate processors and can handle computing tasks independently of each other. This means the more physical cores a processor has, the more tasks it can process simultaneously. Threads can be described as separate virtual cores that all modern processors have. An eight-core processor typically has sixteen threads, meaning it can handle sixteen processes at once.
Processor frequency
The operating frequency indicates the speed of the processor. Generally, a processor with a higher frequency can execute instructions faster than one with a lower frequency. A higher frequency ensures snappier and faster responses in everyday computer use, such as launching applications, browsing the internet or editing documents. It ranges from 1 to 5GHz. Some CPUs allow for a short-term frequency increase under high load (Turbo Boost).
L2 and L3 cache
For a processor to work as fast as possible, it needs fast storage where it can save temporary data. The L2 and L3 caches, located directly on the processor, serve this purpose. Although these memories are significantly smaller than RAM, they are also faster. The L2 and L3 are the first storage the processor works with, and generally, the bigger the better.
Processor socket
Before you choose a new processor, you should know what hardware connector (socket) your motherboard has for the CPU. The processor and motherboard must have the same socket designation; this is the first step to a functional build. Another important factor is the type of operating memory. You should know what type of RAM you have.
TDP (Thermal Design Power)
TDP (Thermal Design Power) is a processor parameter that indicates the amount of heat it produces under load, while also suggesting its energy consumption. A lower TDP means the processor consumes less power and generates less heat, which is ideal for laptops or energy-efficient systems. Conversely, processors with a high TDP have higher performance but require advanced cooling to prevent overheating.
Processor cooling
A processor, much like a graphics card, generates heat during operation that needs to be dissipated, and the processor itself needs cooling. Some chip packages already include a cooler, but if you want to be absolutely sure you can handle the processor's performance, get an external one. External CPU coolers come in various sizes, performance levels, and often support stylish RGB backlighting. You can get both traditional air cooling and modern liquid cooling options.
Generally, the higher the number, the more powerful the processor. For an office PC, a basic processor series will be more than sufficient, but for more challenging work and gaming you will require a more advanced processor.

One of the main parameters of the processor, indicating the number of instructions that the processor can execute in 1 s. The higher frequency, the better working efficiency of the processor.
The supported memory type indicates which operating memory the processor can work with without problems. In practice, this primarily means the generation of modules - the most common today are DDR4 and the more modern DDR5. Each processor has precise limits, so if you try to insert a different type, the computer won't find the memory at all and won't start up.
The maximum number of channels expresses how many separate paths the processor can divide the communication with the RAM into. Most common home computers operate with two channels, so it is ideal to install two identical memory modules to double the speed. If the processor offers a dual-channel connection, it pays to always fit memory in pairs; otherwise, unused channels remain "empty" and performance is reduced.

L3 cache is the largest cache processor. Only one core can write, but it can be read from all the others. It brings greater importance for processors with four or more cores.
