The APC Smart-UPS Ultra On-Line backup power supply with double-conversion on-line topology delivers a true power of 5000W and an apparent power of 5000VA to protect servers and critical IT infrastructure. It uses a modern lithium-ion battery which, compared to standard VRLA batteries, offers up to three times the lifespan and does not require replacement during the entire life of the UPS. Thanks to its high power density and convertible design, it offers flexible installation in a rack or as a freestanding tower.

Performance and efficiency

The on-line double-conversion topology continuously powers connected devices via the internal inverter, eliminating any delay when switching to battery power. The electronics stabilise the output voltage to a pure sine wave, so no additional automatic voltage regulation is necessary. This On-Line UPS achieves a high efficiency of 95.5% at both full and half load. Thanks to its lithium-ion technology and expandability, it provides a long backup time of 5.17 minutes at a full load of 5000W.

Lithium-ion battery and integrated protection

At the core of this power supply is a lithium-ion battery that fully charges in just 1.5 hours. This technology delivers up to three times the lifespan compared to lead-acid VRLA batteries and reduces the total cost of ownership, as the battery does not need to be replaced during the UPS's lifetime. Nevertheless, the battery remains fully user-replaceable. Protection features include surge protection, which absorbs up to 1260J of energy. Additionally, the cold-start function starts the UPS directly from the battery, even without an input power supply.

Flexible design and physical properties

The power supply has a convertible design that can be easily adapted for mounting in a 2U rack position or as a freestanding tower. The package includes all the necessary accessories for both installation options. The front panel features a graphical LCD display that automatically rotates its orientation depending on whether the UPS is installed horizontally or vertically. The operating noise level is 55dB and the device is designed for operation in temperatures from 0 to 40°C. Its compact dimensions of 86×432×701mm and weight of 29.2kg contribute to its high power density.

Management and connectivity

For remote monitoring and configuration, there is an integrated Embedded Network Management Card 3, which is included in the package along with a one-year subscription for secure management. This Lithium-ion UPS connects to the EcoStruxure IT cloud platform. PowerChute Network Shutdown software coordinates the safe shutdown of servers and virtual machines during a prolonged power outage. USB and Ethernet ports are available for local management and connection. The input power is connected via a hardwire terminal block, while six IEC C13 sockets and four IEC C19 sockets are provided for appliances.
