The Garmin Fenix series is an iconic line of smartwatches known for their high durability, long battery life, and versatile sports and outdoor use. They also offer continuous measurement of a wide range of health data, an elegant design, a rich variety of smart features, and compatibility with both iOS and Android smartphones. The 47mm size is suitable for medium to large wrists. The Garmin Fenix 8 is fitted with a durable steel bezel and a high-luminosity AMOLED display with bright colours and high resolution. The display can be set to Always-On mode or to a sleep mode that extends battery life. In sleep mode, the Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch display wakes up with a gesture when you raise and turn your wrist towards your face. For sports activities, you can individually set whether the display should sleep or remain permanently visible. The smartwatch display is protected by sapphire crystal. One of the main advantages of the Fenix 8 (47mm) model is its extremely long battery life, which can power the watch for up to 16 days on a single charge in sleep mode. The Garmin watch uses a system of quick-release straps, allowing you to switch between different colours or strap materials to suit your mood or outfit. The sports features are among the main reasons for choosing a watch from the Garmin Fenix series. The watch uses a system of sports profiles dedicated to individual sports activities. Each sports profile has its own settings and specific functions for that particular sport. The watch can be used for most sports activities, both indoors and outdoors. The activities where the watch is most frequently used include: walking, running, cycling, swimming, skiing, triathlon, rowing, strength training, yoga, golf and many other sports. A new feature of the Fenix 8 model is its dive computer functionality for recreational freediving and scuba diving to a depth of 40 metres. The watch is now fitted with inductive buttons with haptic feedback and increased water resistance. The watch can be fully operated with the buttons even underwater without fear of damage.
The sports features of the Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch also include estimates of fitness metrics, training readiness status, or for example, training load focus. Using daily workout suggestions, the Garmin Coach feature, or race training plans, the watch can automatically suggest running training plans based on your fitness and, optionally, your race schedule, which adapt to you individually. High durability and long battery life make the watch ideal for outdoor activities. For this purpose, the Garmin Fenix 8 is equipped with an electromagnetic compass with automatic tilt correction, a barometric pressure sensor, an altimeter, and a depth gauge. The Garmin watch's memory comes preloaded with detailed topographic maps of Europe, with the option to download detailed maps of other continents. The watch can provide detailed navigation over the map, including detailed turn-by-turn directions when following a route. Routes can be planned directly on the watch, in the Garmin Connect mobile app, or using the popular Czech app Mapy.cz. Precise position calculation is ensured by a satellite receiver with support for GPS/GLONASS/GALILEO satellite systems and a multi-band GPS receiver. SatIQ technology ensures optimal satellite reception settings, automatically switching between multiple satellite signal reception modes to optimise accuracy and save power. A very practical tool on the watch is the built-in LED torch with red and white light and adjustable intensity.
The long battery life of the Garmin Fenix 8 allows for all-day wear without the need to take it off frequently for charging. The watch is therefore able to continuously measure and record daily and nightly health and activity data. This primarily includes heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, respiration rate, daily step count, floors climbed, and minutes of intense activity. From these measured metrics, the watch derives other functions and values, such as Body Battery, Stress Score, HRV Status, temperature and altitude acclimatisation status, and more. The health monitoring features also include functions for measuring sleep duration and quality. In addition to the duration and Sleep Score, the Garmin Fenix 8 also measures individual sleep stages and short naps, and provides recommendations for achieving better quality sleep and recovery.
The Garmin Fenix 8 watch can be connected to smartphones with both Android and iOS operating systems. On both platforms, the watch offers the ability to make Bluetooth calls directly from your wrist thanks to the built-in microphone and speaker (the watch does not have a built-in SIM card and requires a connected compatible smartphone nearby for the calling function). On both platforms, the ability to display notifications and incoming calls on the watch screen is a standard feature. If you own an Android phone, you can also reply to messages directly from the watch display. With the Garmin Fenix 8, you can also record short voice memos or use voice assistant services.
Popular features include contactless Garmin Pay, which allows you to add a digital copy of your regular payment card to the Fenix 8 (if your card supports the feature) and then pay with the watch in a similar way to using a payment card. Another popular gadget is the built-in music player with support for offline listening from Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music. Simply connect wireless headphones to your Garmin Fenix 8 via Bluetooth and listen to music even without your phone.
To communicate with a smartphone and for long-term storage of measured data, the Garmin Fenix 8 watch uses the Garmin Connect mobile app, which is available for free download. Both the app and the user interface of the Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch are fully localised into Czech.
