Yellow maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a hearty root vegetable native to the Peruvian Andes. Yellow maca is the most commonly used and available variety in dietary supplements. The root of Maca peruviana has been used for thousands of years. Over the centuries, this small but nevertheless very important vegetable has found a place in various cultures and countries. Maca grows in the South American mountains at an altitude of 3000 to 4000 metres above sea level, where conditions are very harsh and unfavourable. Almost no plants grow in these exceptional conditions, one could say that Maca is exceptional in this respect. Perhaps because of this, the ancient Incas knew the maca root and used it extensively for its excellent properties. Maca contains various vitamins (e.g. vitamin C, B-vitamins) and minerals (e.g. iron, potassium, calcium, copper, zinc, manganese), glucosinolates and polyphenols and a complete profile of essential amino acids. In this product we use yellow maca, which is creamy in colour and the most popular species in Peru.
