It's held together by concealed joints made of hardened steel and a visible steel rivet. The joints are lubricated with mineral petroleum jelly for easier handling. The segments are finished with two layers of water-soluble paint, which ensures they are water-resistant. The top layer of UV varnish protects the rule from solvents.
