The compact wireless PIR detector can be used as an outdoor motion alarm sensor in the Homematic IP smart home system or for remote brightness-dependent light switching and connection to other Homematic IP products via a free mobile app. Connection via radio waves, control via Android and iOS app in Czech, English and other languages. It works in combination with the HmIP-HAP Central Unit.

System operation
The wireless connection of Homematic IP devices to the HmIP-HAP Central Unit offers convenient setup and control of a complex smart home system using an intuitive app (for Android and iOS in CZ) designed for smartphones. The mobile app enables instant response to messages and alerts from your smart home system and connects all Homematic IP devices via a free, unlimited cloud that allows you to set up and control the system from anywhere in the world, transfer important information and update the software and firmware of the devices, and forward configuration and operational commands from the Homematic IP app to individual smart home devices.
Alarm functions of PIR motion detector
The HmIP-SMO-2 outdoor motion detector is activated as soon as its PIR sensor detects motion during active protection. The system immediately performs the pre-configured operation and informs you of the event via push notifications from the Homematic IP mobile app on your smartphone. You can ensure greater protection if your security solution includes an indoor HmIP-ASIR-2 siren or an outdoor HmIP-ASIR-O siren. In this case, if the protection of the guarded area is breached, a loud alarm sound is automatically triggered.

Brightness sensor
Automatic lighting control when motion is detected or for greater comfort and maximum energy saving, depending on the preset brightness value and ambient lighting conditions, lighting is only activated when needed. The brightness thresholds of the integrated sensor and the switching time can be individually and continuously adjusted via the mobile app. If it becomes dark or completely dark, the device is activated and the system executes the preconfigured operation or scenario. When used for light control after motion detection, the duration of the luminaire illumination can be continuously adjusted in the Homematic IP application.
Small size and unprecedented power
The IP44 splash-proof housing and an operating temperature range between -20 °C and +55 °C ensure reliable operation even in the harshest conditions. The detector protects the area within a range of up to 12 metres and a detection angle of around 90°. The 360° rotatable design of the detector ensures accurate sensing of the desired part of the premises. The built-in brightness sensor ensures precise switching of the lights in both darkness and dusk.

Protection in case of sabotage
If an intruder reaches the motion detector, the tamper contact reliably detects the tampering and triggers an alarm. Inter-device communication ensures that the alarm is triggered even without an internet connection. If your smart home security solution includes a Homematic IP siren (outdoor or indoor), the siren will remain in alarm mode in the event of sabotage or destruction of the HmIP-HAP Central Unit.

For secure, stable and reliable communication between devices, the system has its own unique radio technology with encrypted security, making it the first smart home system whose protocol, IT and data security are regularly tested and certified by the independent VDE institute.
Easy installation in just a few moments
Installation of the Homematic IP wireless PIR motion detector is very simple and can be done by anyone. Wireless communication and battery operation offer the possibility of simple installation without the need for cabling. This means that the detector can be placed almost anywhere outdoors or indoors.
