The wireless rain sensor (HmIP-SRD) for outdoor use is part of the Homematic IP smart home system. The high weather and weatherproof sensor offers a wide range of applications in conjunction with other Homematic IP devices. The device detects even the smallest amount of rain or snowfall and then transmits the information to the Central Unit (HmIP-HAP) and the connected Homematic IP devices, which react according to a predefined configuration.

Homematic IP rain and snow detector
The device is primarily designed for outdoor use, but it can also be used in indoor conditions (greenhouses, conservatories, etc. ). The rain and snowfall detection sensor has a large surface area of integrated sensors that are very sensitive to even the smallest amount of raindrops or snowflakes. To ensure reliable detection, the sensor sensitivity can be freely adjusted in the Homematic IP mobile app depending on conditions and location. The device has an integrated intelligent heating system that ensures rapid drying of the sensor surface and at the same time maintains constant conditions for precipitation detection - in this way any functional limitations due to rapid weather changes (frost in winter, ice or dew in spring and summer) are avoided.
Flexible installation and smart integration
Wireless communication offers the possibility of variable installation of the sensor almost anywhere in the outdoor environment, within which it is only necessary to provide a local wired power supply via an external power supply. In combination with other Homematic IP devices, such as Actuators for controlling blinds, roller shutters or awnings, the smart home system can be automated, setting up different types of scenarios and simultaneously adapting to the actual conditions of precipitation detection. The device can be a very effective complement to the Homematic IP (HmIP-SWO-x) weather sensors for monitoring and predicting the weather with a direct link to automation and individual building management. The IP44 splash-proof design and operating temperature range between -20 °C and +55 °C ensures reliable operation even in the most demanding conditions.
