The correct saturation level is above 95%. During oxygen therapy, the numbers jump to 99-100%. If the values are lower (especially below 90%), respiratory failure (hypoxia) may be present. An oximeter helps doctors diagnose hypoxia when it is not apparent from physical manifestations.
