Where is Darjeeling grown?
Darjeeling, growing on the plantations of the eponymous region of northeast India, has become a highly sought-after tea worldwide. The climatic conditions of the foothills of the Himalayas really suit the tea plant. The high altitude, cooler temperatures and foggy conditions allow this shrub to grow quickly, so Darjeeling can be harvested four times a year - from April to November.
What taste to expect from Darjeeling?
Darjeeling is harvested four times a year, so it is obvious that the infusion of its tea leaves will taste a little different each time due to the changing weather throughout the year. In general, however, green Darjeeling has a lightly herbal refreshing taste with fruity sweet notes, which can be further enhanced by adding honey, your favourite syrup or a slice of lemon. Darjeeling tastes great hot and cold. If you add a few more ice cubes to the chilled infusion, you have a deliciously refreshing iced tea.
Interesting facts about Darjeeling
- Green Darjeeling differs from black Darjeeling in the way it is processed - it is not subject to the fermentation process.
- In general, green teas contain slightly less caffeine than black teas. However, despite the lower caffeine content, you shouldn't drink it a few hours before bedtime, otherwise the quality of your article could be compromised.
Ingredients
Green tea.
Preparation
To make 250 ml of infusion, use 1-2 teaspoons of tea leaves. The optimum water temperature for pouring the tea is between 75 and 85 °C. The recommended water temperature should be taken into account, as it is at this temperature that the infusion acquires its unique taste and avoids unwanted bitter notes at the end. The ideal time to infuse Darjeeling is 2 to 4 minutes. You can enhance the slightly sweet taste of the brine after it cools down by adding a teaspoon of honey, which will enhance the aroma and taste beautifully.
