Rafiki
Rafiki is a wonderful blend of Arabica from the Mount Elgon volcano and Robusta from the lowland Kibaale region. We named her after a strong male gorilla named Rafiki, who was murdered by poachers in Uganda in June 2020. Our African Queen Arabica gives the Rafiki blend a fruity citrus note. The bitter, earthy robusta then creates the firm body of this coffee. If you want to get a really strong coffee blend, Rafiki is the right choice because the ratio of Arabica to Robusta is one to one. The blend therefore has a relatively high caffeine content. The aroma of this coffee has floral notes and a distinct bitterness of Ugandan robusta. The acidity is very mild - citrusy. The taste of this coffee is really interesting - liquorice, slightly sandalwood aftertaste.

Coffee with the story of the Ugandan mountains
Uganda is famous for its robustness all over the world. According to scientific knowledge, the first Robusta bushes grew in Uganda near Lake Victoria several thousand years ago. The blend of Arabica and Robusta creates the perfect refreshing espresso. The rich crema is due to the proportion of robusta, which contains more caffeine, in the overall blend. We named it in memory of the strong male gorilla Rafiki, who was killed by poachers in the Ugandan mountains in June 2020. Sixteen months earlier, we visited his gorilla troop in Uganda's Bwindi Nature Park as part of the first annual Go for Gorilla expedition. This crime saddens us all the more.
We buy Rafiki coffee with a conscious responsibility to protect the environment. Direct contact with the farmers, whom we visit personally on their coffee plantations, is also essential. We know that only by buying directly from the growers can we get perfect quality. This also allows us to guarantee that the coffee we offer is not tainted by robbing farmers or slave child labour.
