Resolution indicates the number of pixels that make up an image or video. A lot of modern devices are equipped with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), which is suitable for display on large screen TVs or monitors. Higher resolution provides smoother images with more detail.

Compact cameras usually have an aspect ratio of the sensor 4:3, powerful equipment can have 2:3 or 3:2. Available are also variations, such as 16:10, 16:9, 5:4, etc.

The maximum focal length is the greatest distance at which the lens can be focused. This value is usually given in millimetres and is a determinant of how far away from the lens the camera can focus. Cameras with a higher maximum focal length can focus on objects that are further away from the lens.
