The SilentPower GND Defender adaptor suppresses the unwanted hum in audio systems caused by ground loops. This component is inserted directly between the mains cable and the protected device, where it intelligently breaks DC ground loops without compromising safety or interference shielding. The design prevents unwanted currents from passing through the earth wire, but maintains the safety earth in case of a fault. The adaptor works with any audio setup with multiple earthed components, where it eliminates low-frequency noise.
The presence of multiple earths in an audio setup often creates unwanted ground loops. These loops manifest as an unpleasant low-frequency hum from the speakers, which degrades the listening experience. The device intelligently detects a ground loop on a given component and immediately breaks it. This effectively cleans the signal path and removes interfering frequencies without affecting the actual audio signal passing through the system.
Conventional solutions often compromise the safety of the protected device or suppress the shielding against high-frequency interference. This component leaves the protected device with its full EMI shielding completely intact. This means you do not lose protection from external electromagnetic and high-frequency interference from the surrounding environment. This helps maintain power purity even in locations with a high concentration of wireless networks and other sources of interference.
The internal circuitry includes a glass-passivated semiconductor and an X7R capacitor. The casing has a high strength rating with a UL certification of 1500VRMS. This hardware specification meets the requirements for global use in electrical grids around the world. The device operates without restriction in various voltage systems and meets strict international standards for electrical safety. The structural components can also handle demanding operating conditions in both industrial and domestic networks.
Unlike a standard ground lift, this system does not compromise the safety of the connected device. The design still maintains the device's safety earth. In the event of a fault, there is no risk of electric shock. The device does not function as a classic ground lift that would completely isolate the earth, but reacts only to unwanted equalising currents. The safety features remain fully active regardless of the state of the mains network.
No complicated setup is required for connection. Simply plug the adaptor directly into the device's mains input. Then connect a standard mains cable from the socket to the back of the adaptor. This process can be repeated for all devices in the chain that are experiencing ground noise problems. The compact size makes it easy to place even in a limited space behind an audio rack or near a wall where space is tight.
