Cthulhu: Dark Times

Cthulhu: Dark Times

A battle for the fate of a country on the brink of ruin
Cthulhu: Dark Ages is a strategic deck-building board game set in the horror world of H. P. Lovecraft, in which players secretly take on the role of one of two sides fighting for the fate of the United States of America during the Great Depression. Each player's allegiance as an investigator, cultist or renegade determines how they will score points at the end of the game. At the end of the game, the player with the lowest number of victory points is eliminated along with all players who share their allegiance. The remaining player with the highest score wins. Cthulhu: Dark Ages is designed for 1–5 players aged 13 and over. One game session takes 90–120 minutes.

Become a member of one side of the conflict
In Cthulhu: Dark Ages, cultists exploit the country's vulnerability and seek to reshape it into their own twisted form through alliances with unspeakable beings from nightmares and other dimensions. Investigators, on the other hand, try to prevent this dark fate, and renegades do not belong to either side of the conflict. They score points for eliminating agents and for closing and protecting gates. As enemies of both rival camps, they must above all carefully hide their identity.

Build your deck of network cards and achieve victory
Each player's secret allegiance determines how they will score victory points at the end of Cthulhu: Dark Ages. During the game, players use influence dice to bid for the right to acquire network cards, take control of cities, and acquire mythos cards. Each new network card acquired improves a player's deck, and thus the amount of resources and actions they can use during their turn. All players start with the same ten basic cards, and regardless of the strategy chosen, acquiring new network cards is key to strengthening their deck.

Single-player mode
Players try to keep their identities secret and avoid madness, while being able to perform a number of different actions. They can win hired agents over to their side, eliminate other players' agents, use the help of mythos cards, prevent opponents from acquiring cards, or close and protect gates. They gain victory points in these and other ways. Dark Ages also offers a solo mode in which a single player faces an Ancient One who is trying to corrupt the entire nation. The player takes on the role of an investigator and faces one of six Ancient Ones, each with unique abilities, characteristics and objectives.
