In Wizard Duel, you take on the role of a ruler who assembles a team of six wizards from a deck of eighteen different characters. Each of the wizards has a value, an element and above all a magical ability that affects the course of the duel. The battles take place in three criteria: First the magical ability is evaluated, then the relationship between the elements (similar to rock-paper-scissors) and finally, if undecided, the wizard's value number. You can also strategically rearrange cards or influence your opponent's preparation with various tricks and abilities that can affect the outcome of the duel. The most interesting thing about the whole game is the system of secretly planning the order of cards and discarding wizards, with each round being different and each choice having its own weight. The first player to get 2 winning chips wins the tournament.
History and creators of the game
Wizard's Duel was designed by Japanese game designer Seiji Kanai, best known as the creator of the highly successful Love Letter. Illustrations by Yamamori, who provided a simple yet distinctive visual style for the wizards. The game was originally released in Japan under the Jelly Jelly Games banner and was brought to European distribution by French company La Boîte de Jeu. The Czech localization was prepared in 2025 and the game is currently in production.
