Electric kettles have been an indispensable kitchen appliance for a long time now. When buying a kettle, the most important factor is the volume, which you should choose based on the number of people in your household. Then there are technical parameters to consider, such as the power consumption or the heating coil design. What else should you keep in mind when buying an electric kettle?

How to Choose an Electric Kettle?
Consider the Electric Kettle Material
When buying an electric kettle, you should consider the material it is made of. An electric kettle usually stands in plain sight, so make sure you actually like both its appearance and its specific properties.
Plastic kettles are the most affordable. You can choose from multiple colours and designs. Even in this subcategory you can find kettles with premium features.
Stainless steel kettles are a good compromise. Stainless steel can take extreme temperatures better than plastic and is easy to maintain and clean. You can also choose between multiple models, differing in volume, power consumptions, or features.
Glass kettles can really enhance your kitchen. They look great, but they are also difficult to maintain and require frequent descaling. They often feature backlighting of some sort, so heating up water can become a quite fun process.
Ceramic kettles are design masterpieces, ideal for retro-styled households and anyone who has a taste for vintage. They insulate heat very well and water remains almost at boiling point for quite a while after boiling. However, the purchase price of this type tends to be somewhat higher. The downside is also their greater weight.
Electric Kettle Volume
Choose the size of the electric kettle depending on how many members does your household have and how much water you usually heat. If you don’t heat much water or your household has only two people, a smaller kettle will be enough.
For 1-2 person households, we recommend kettles up to 1 litre in volume.
If your household has 3 or more people or you have visitors often, we recommend choosing a kettle at least 1.5 litre in volume.
One litre of water from the electric kettle gives you 4-5 typical cups of tea or coffee.
Electric Kettle Power Consumption
Power consumptions of electric kettles generally ranges between 600 W and 3000 W. This parameter affects the speed with which the water is boiled, but also how much electricity the appliance consumes. If you want your water boiled fast, choose a kettle with power consumption of 2000 W or more.
Boil only as much water in your electric kettle as you really need. It saves both time and money.
Kettle Heating Element Design
The heating element heats up water. It can be concealed or visible. Kettles with a concealed heating element accumulate less limescale, but heating water takes is a bit longer.
Electric Kettle - Additional Features
A mineral deposits and limescale filter. It captures any impurities when pouring boiled water. A removable filter is easily washable.
A watermark lets you check the water levels. Some kettles have multiple watermarks or are double-sided.
A swivel base greatly increases user comfort. The 360° connector makes kettle easier to handle.
The water temperature control kettle feature is useful if you want to serve premium teas and coffees. As a rule, you can choose from a temperature range of 70-100 °C.
Anti-Drip system was developed to enable easier pouring without spillage or leaking.
Dry boil prevention protects the device from damage. The kettle shuts off automatically when empty.
