The lens was therefore designed for handheld shooting, which is greatly helped by vibration compensation. The image stabilisation system is among the most powerful in any telephoto lens with a variable focal length. It allows you to capture photos with EV settings of up to 5 steps and also offers horizontal object tracking, reacting automatically by turning on vertical stabilisation only.

Packed with features

The powerful optics are made up of incredible 21 elements in 14 groups. Most important of these are the five ED lenses and one Super lens, which combine to minimise chromatic aberrations, which tend to be a big problem in telephoto lenses. This lens, however, provides the highest image quality in its class and you will be hard-pressed to find any flaws in the resulting images. Additionally, the fluorine coating increases durability and repels water and dirt. Dust and dirt are often unavoidable when doing nature photography, so the lens was designed to withstand the elements and to be easy to clean.

Instant focus

The autofocus works so quickly and smoothly that it can comfortably capture even fast moving objects, including planes or racecars. The dual linear motor is not only fast, but also very quiet, so you can use the lens in situations where you don't want to disturb anyone. Typical examples include musical or theatrical performances. The focus limiter switch can be set to 5m to provide even faster focusing performance.
