Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide composed of the amino acids glutamine, cysteine and glycine. It is present in every cell of the body and plays a key role in many biological functions. The highest concentration of glutathione is found in the liver. Glutathione is also abundantly present in the kidneys, heart, lungs and other organs. Glutathione forms one of the body's main lines of defense. Dietary glutathione is most commonly found in meat, fruit, brewer's yeast, legumes and vegetables, especially in the one which contains sulfur (in broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic, kale or onions). Some herbs, such as watercress, are also natural sources of glutathione. When a dietary supplement with L-Glutathione states that it contains L-Glutathione extract with a 99% concentration, it speaks of high purity and standardization.
