Rutin belongs to the bioflavonoid glycosides. It is found in a variety of plants, most often in high concentrations in the buds and flowers of Japanese cranesbill (Sophora japonica). Rutin is known for its biological properties. Bioflavonoids are substances that add flavour and colour to some fruits and vegetables. It can be found in apple peel, buckwheat, romaine, citrus fruits and black tea. The main source of rutin is the buds of Sophora Japonica. Rutin is extracted and concentrated to achieve the required purity of 95%. The buds of the Japanese Yerlina are harvested and then dried to preserve their bioactive components. The dried buds are processed by solvent extraction to obtain rutin. The extract obtained is further purified and concentrated to contain 95% rutin. If a dietary supplement states that it contains rutin extract with a concentration of 95%, this indicates high purity and standardization. The standardization of the extract ensures that it contains exactly 95% rutin, resulting in a consistent quality product. Standardisation also means that the product undergoes rigorous tests and checks to ensure that the content is as declared.
